Robert Earl Wise was an American sound effects editor, film editor, film producer, and director whose working period spanned the 1930s to the 1990s. Born on September 10, 1914, in Winchester, Indiana, USA, Wise achieved significant recognition throughout his career. He won Academy Awards as Best Director for West Side Story in 1961 and The Sound of Music in 1965. Additionally, he received nominations for Best Film Editing for Citizen Kane in 1941 and Best Picture for The Sand Pebbles in 1966. His extensive filmography includes Born to Kill, Destination Gobi, The Hindenburg, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Run Silent, Run Deep, The Andromeda Strain, The Set-Up, The Haunting, and The Body Snatcher.
