Robert Gravel was an actor, dramatist, theatrical director, and teacher born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on September 14, 1944. He is recognized as an influential figure in the modern history of theatre in Quebec. In the mid-1970s, he co-founded the Theatre Experimental de Montreal alongside Jean-Pierre Ronfard and Pol Pelletier, and later helped establish the Nouveau Theatre Experimental following ideological conflicts. In 1977, Gravel and Yvon Leduc co-founded the highly successful Ligue Nationale d'Improvisation. Gravel had twenty-one known acting credits.
