Rob Marshall is an American film director, theater director, and choreographer. He was born on October 17, 1960, in Madison, Wisconsin, and was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Marshall is recognized as a six-time Tony Award nominee, an Academy Award nominee, a Golden Globe nominee, and a four-time Emmy winner. His most noted work is the 2002 Academy Award Best Picture winner Chicago. He debuted in the film industry with the Emmy Award-winning television adaptation of the musical Annie, created by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin. Following that project, he directed the 2002 adaptation of the Kander and Ebb musical Chicago, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Director.
