Richard Sammel was born on 13 October 1960 in Heidelberg, Germany. As a curious and shy child he found his direction through music, dance and theatre. He studied music and drama in Germany, acting and directing in France, and method acting with Susan Strasberg and Francesca de Sapio in Italy. His first stage appearance was in 1981 at the local theatre in Hildesheim; from 1983 he performed on independent stages, national theatres and in the streets of France. After moving to Italy in 1989 he met Susan Strasberg and made his film debut in 1990 starring in Barbara Barni’s “Il Piacere delle Carni”. In 1993 he relocated to Paris and obtained the lead role in the film version of Brecht and Eisler’s “The Lindbergh’s Flight”. He has since accumulated ninety‑four screen credits.
