Phoebe Belle Cates Kline, born July 16, 1963, is a retired American actress and businesswoman. She appeared in several films during the 1980s and 1990s, including Paradise (1982), Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), Gremlins (1984), Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990), Drop Dead Fred (1991), and Princess Caraboo (1994). Her final film role was in The Anniversary Party (2001). Cates was born in New York City to Lily and Joseph Cates, a Broadway producer and television pioneer. Her uncle was director and producer Gilbert Cates. She has been married to actor Kevin Kline since 1989, and they have two children.
