Mireille Mathieu is a French singer born on July 22, 1946, in Avignon, Vaucluse, France. She is the eldest daughter in a family of fourteen children. Her father, Roger, and his family were native to Avignon, where he operated a stonemason shop near the Saint-Véran cemetery with his father, Arcade. Her mother, Marcelle-Sophie, originally from Dunkirk, arrived in Avignon in 1944 as a World War II refugee. Throughout her career, Mathieu has recorded more than 1,200 songs in eleven different languages. Her professional output includes the sale of over 122 million records worldwide.
