Hugh Milburn Stone, also known as Milburne Stone, was an American actor born on July 5, 1904, in Burrton, Kansas, to parents Herbert Stone and Laura Belfield. He graduated from Burrton High School, where he participated in the drama club, played basketball, and sang in a barbershop quartet. He is best known for his role as Doc, Dr. Galen Adams, on the CBS Western series Gunsmoke. His brother Joe wrote scripts for three episodes of the series, and he emulated his famous uncle Fred. Stone debuted on stage in a 1919 Kansas tent show, entered vaudeville in the late 1920s, and formed part of the Stone and Strain song-and-dance act by 1930. He also appeared in films including Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok, Pickup on South Street, and Young Mr. Lincoln. He passed away on June 12, 1980.
