Michiyo Kogure was a Japanese film actress born in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, on January 31, 1918. During a career that spanned 45 years, she appeared in nearly 200 films and was known for her work with directors such as Akira Kurosawa, Kenji Mizoguchi, Yasujiro Ozu, and Mikio Naruse. Film historian Donald Richie described her as one of Japan's most versatile actresses and perhaps the most intellectual in her approach to acting. She graduated from Nihon University in 1940. While still a student, she joined the Shochiku film studios and made her screen debut in 1939. Her known credits include 160 entries on the Movie Database. She passed away on June 13, 1990, at the age of 72.
