Michael David Apted CMG was an English television and film director and producer born on February 10, 1941, in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England. He began working in television and directed the Up documentary series from 1970 to 2019. His film credits include Coal Miner's Daughter in 1980, Gorillas in the Mist in 1988, Nell in 1994, the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough in 1999, Enigma in 2001, and Amazing Grace in 2006, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. On June 29, 2003, he was elected president of the Directors Guild of America, serving until 2009. He died on January 7, 2021, at the age of 79.
