Matt Lattanzi was born on February 1, 1959, in Portland, Oregon, to parents Jeanette, who is of Polish ancestry, and Charles Paul Lattanzi, a maintenance foreman of Italian descent. He grew up in Portland and graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School in 1977. While filming Xanadu, he met Olivia Newton-John, and the couple married in 1984. They had one daughter, Chloe Rose Lattanzi, born on January 17, 1986. By 1992, his acting career was largely over, and he began working as a construction worker for a California home-building company. In 1993, Lattanzi and Newton-John relocated to their ranch in Australia so he could audition for a new soap opera.
