Matt Groening was born on February 15, 1954, in Portland, Oregon, USA. He is an American cartoonist, writer, producer, and animator. Groening is best known as the creator of the television series The Simpsons, which began in 1989 and is the longest-running American primetime television series in history, as well as the longest-running American animated series and sitcom. His other television series creations include Futurama, which originally aired from 1999 to 2003, returned from 2008 to 2013, and continued from 2023 onward, and Disenchantment, which ran from 2018 to 2023. Groening also created the comic strip Life in Hell, which ran from 1977 to 2012, making his first professional cartoon sale of the strip to the avant-garde magazine Wet in 1978.
