Biography

Louis Marie Malle was a French film director, screenwriter, and producer who worked in both French cinema and Hollywood. Born on October 30, 1932, he produced films in both French and English. His film The Silent World won the Palme d'Or in 1956 and the Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1957, though the award was presented to co-director Jacques Cousteau rather than Malle. His notable works include the 1958 crime film Elevator to the Gallows. Malle died on November 23, 1995.
