She was a Mexican actress and dancer, noted for her beauty and on-screen sensuality, and she became a famous star and sex symbol of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. After winning a beauty contest, she began working in the Mexican cinematographic industry, initially as an extra before advancing to leading roles. She starred in over one hundred films and shared scenes in many pictures with Pedro Infante. She was directed by Luis Buñuel in Subida al cielo, Abismos de pasión, and La ilusión viaja en tranvía. Alongside Silvia Pinal, she was one of only two actresses who worked with Buñuel in three films.
