Lee Chae‑young (이채영) was born on 29 April 1986 in Seoul, South Korea. She entered the entertainment field through music videos, debuting in 2003 with “Come On,” a video by the hip‑hop group Turtles. The following year she appeared in Rain’s “I Do” music video, and in 2007 she featured in Yoon Mi‑rae’s “Did You Forget It.” These early appearances introduced her visual presence to a broad audience before she transitioned to acting.

Her first television drama role came in the romantic comedy Witch Yoo Hee, where she portrayed Chef Marie. The part marked her entry into scripted series and led to further opportunities. In 2009 Lee was cast as Sa Illa in the historical drama Iron Empress, a role that coincided with her appointment as a host on the Korean Broadcasting System variety program Star Golden Bell.
