Carmichael was educated at Shirley Junior School, The Mountbatten School, and Peter Symonds College, before attending the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol, where she graduated in 2007. She is a member of The Fitzrovia Radio Hour. Carmichael's known credits include performances in television period drama series Downton Abbey, the TV series Marcella, and the feature film A United Kingdom.
