Klay Hall was born on 11 September 1958 in Los Angeles, California. He began his animation career working on the television series Amazing Stories, the film Cool World, and the series Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures. After these early assignments he moved into directing, contributing episodes to the long‑running animated sitcom The Simpsons and to the animated series Family Dog. His work during this period established him as a director capable of handling both television and feature‑film environments.

Hall later served as supervising director for the animated series King of the Hill, overseeing 89 episodes produced by Film Roman. He made his first foray into three‑dimensional computer‑generated animation as the director of the CGI series Father of the Pride, a DreamWorks production animated at Imagi Studios. In 2005 he was hired by DisneyToon Studios, where he continued to apply his experience in both traditional 2D and CGI long‑form animation. Throughout his career Hall has been credited as an animator, storyboard artist, and television and film director, working across a range of animated formats and studios. In addition to directing, Hall is credited with writing on several projects, bringing his storytelling perspective to the animation pipeline.
