Kevin Smith (born Kevin Todd Smith; 16 March 1963 – 15 February 2002) was a New Zealand‑born male actor. He was born in Auckland, the first child of a mother identified as Tonganka. Smith is best known for portraying the god of war Ares in the syndicated series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, which ran from 1995 to 1999, a recurring role that made him a fan favourite and contributed to the show’s success alongside lead Kevin Sorbo. He was also cast as a SEAL unit member opposite Bruce Willis in a project that remained unrealised, and he appeared in films such as Simpsonovi, Relics and Rarities, and Teorie velkého třesku. Smith died on 15 February 2002 at age 38 after sustaining a head injury from a fall from a three‑story tower.
