Born on March 19, 1907, in New York City, New York, USA, he began his acting career in 1925 as a founder of the Harvard "University Players" in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Smith's professional acting debut was in 1929 in Blind Window in Baltimore, Maryland. He made his Broadway acting debut in 1932 in Men Must Fight. Throughout his career, Smith appeared in numerous stage productions, films, and television shows. He passed away on April 23, 1985.
