Julien Désiré Bertheau was a French actor and director born on June 19, 1910, in Algiers, Alger, France. He died on October 28, 1995, at the age of 85. Growing up in Paris, he studied acting at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art. Bertheau was one of the favorite actors of director Luis Buñuel, appearing in his films Cela s'appelle l'aurore in 1955, playing a maitre d'hotel in La Voie lactée in 1969, and portraying a bishop. In 1961, he starred in Madame Sans-Gene opposite Sophia Loren. Throughout his career in French cinema, he also portrayed the emperor Napoleon in two films.
