John Howard Gallagher Jr. is an American actor and musician born on June 17, 1984. He is recognized for originating the role of Moritz Stiefel in the rock musical Spring Awakening, a performance that earned him a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. His extensive Broadway career includes roles as Johnny in American Idiot, Lee in Jerusalem, and Edmund in the 2016 revival of Long Day's Journey Into Night. On television, he portrayed Jim Harper in the drama series The Newsroom and starred in the HBO mini-series Olive Kitteridge. Additionally, he appeared in the film 10 Cloverfield Lane, where he played the character Emmett DeWitt.
