She graduated from the Newtown High School of the Performing Arts and appeared for various drama companies. She is best known for her role as Belle Taylor on the Australian soap opera Home and Away, which she joined in 2006 and received two Logie Award nominations during her time there before announcing her departure in 2009, resulting in her character being killed off. Tovey also became the face of American shoe company Skechers.
