Career overview

Jenny Jugo was an Austrian actress born as Eugenie Walter on June 14, 1904, in Mürzzuschlag, Austria. The daughter of a factory owner, she was educated at a convent school and was married briefly to the actor Emo Jugo, whose surname she kept throughout her professional career. She moved to Berlin and was placed under contract by the German studio UFA in 1924.

During her early career, she struggled in dramatic roles. However, towards the end of the silent era, she fared much better in comedies, a trend that continued into the 1930s. She became known for her portrayal of bouncy, assertive characters, establishing herself as a lively, dimple-cheeked actress with a tomboyish, unaffected manner who briefly flirted with stardom in a string of romantic comedies during the mid-1930s. Many of her films during this period were directed by Erich Engel.

She appeared in more than fifty films between 1925 and 1950, continuing to make films during the Nazi era until 1943. Following this period, she spent much of her time at her home in Bavaria. Her career in film concluded around 1950, and she lived until September 30, 2001, when she died at the age of 97.
