Biography

Jean-Claude Van Damme, born Jean-Claude Camille François Van Varenberg on October 18, 1960, is a Belgian actor and martial artist. Raised in Brussels, he began martial arts training at age eleven after his father introduced him to the discipline. He later studied at the Centre National De Karate under Master Claude Goetz, eventually earning a position on the Belgium Karate Team and winning the European professional karate association middleweight championship as a teenager. Professionally known as Jean-Claude Van Damme, he became an action-film star recognized for his acrobatic kicks and splits. His filmography includes the movie Bloodsport, and he is credited as an actor in the film Double Impact. He is sometimes referred to as The Muscles from Brussels.
