Jay Sheldon Wolpert was an American television producer and screenwriter born on January 29, 1942, and he died on January 2, 2022, or January 3, 2022. Wolpert began his game show producing career in Canada working for US quiz scandal figure Dan Enright. He subsequently worked as a producer and creator of game shows for Chuck Barris Productions and Goodson-Todman Productions. While at Goodson-Todman, he served as producer of The Price is Right from 1972 until 1978. Wolpert later left Goodson-Todman to form his own production company, creating the 1979 CBS series Whew! and the 1983 NBC series Hit Man.

Jay Sheldon Wolpert was an American television producer and screenwriter born on January 29, 1942. He began his game show producing career working in Canada for US quiz scandal figure Dan Enright. He subsequently worked as a producer and creator of game shows for Chuck Barris Productions and Goodson-Todman Productions. During his time at Goodson-Todman, he served as a producer of The Price is Right from 1972 until 1978.

After leaving Goodson-Todman, Wolpert formed his own production company. His first game show with the new venture was the 1979 series Whew! for CBS. Whew! was canceled in 1980, and although he shot several pilots in the interim, Wolpert did not return to television with a series until January 1983. On January 3, 1983, his series Hit Man debuted on NBC. Wolpert passed away on January 2 or January 3, 2022, at the age of 79.
