Biography

Jafar Panahi is an Iranian filmmaker and actor born on July 11, 1960. He is a representative of the Iranian New Wave and one of the leaders of contemporary Iranian cinema. Panahi's work reflects on the nature of cinema and human society, and is imbued with humanity. In 2010, he was sentenced to six years in prison and banned from making films for 20 years, but he has continued to create films, including Three Faces, which was his fourth film made after the ban, along with This Is Not a Film, Closed Curtain, and Taxi.
