Biography
Harry Laverne Anderson was an American actor, screenwriter, director, comedian, and magician born on October 14, 1952, in Newport, Rhode Island. He is best known for portraying Judge Harry Stone on the NBC sitcom Night Court, which aired from 1984 to 1992. His television career included eight appearances on Saturday Night Live between 1981 and 1985 and a recurring role as con man Harry The Hat Gittes on Cheers. Anderson also appeared in the 1990 production of IT and Tales from the Crypt. Beyond his acting work, he toured as a magician and hosted magic and comedy broadcasts such as Harry Anderson's Sideshow. Anderson died on April 16, 2018, in Asheville, North Carolina.
