George E. Marshall was an American actor, screenwriter, producer, and film and television director whose career spanned more than fifty years, remaining active through the first six decades of film history. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 28, 1891, or December 29, 1891, he died on February 17, 1975, at the age of eighty-three. Marshall proved adept at most genres throughout his career, with comedies, musicals, and westerns dominating his oeuvre. Relatively few of his films are well-known today, with the biggest exceptions being Destry Rides Again, The Sheepman, and How the West Was Won.
