He attended Archbishop Tenison's Church of England School in Kennington and was involved in various junior stage groups and fringe theatrical companies. Olsen immersed himself in the punk rock scene until returning to theatre in 1978. He made his screen debut in 1979 as Rory Storm in The Birth Of The Beatles. Olsen appeared in numerous British productions and helped develop the musical production Up on the Roof, starring in it at London's Donmar and Apollo theatres in 1987. He passed away on September 12, 2000, at the age of 42.
