Fernando Trueba is a male director born on January 18, 1955, in Madrid, Spain. Also known as Fernando Rodriguez Trueba, he studied cinematography at the Facultad de Ciencias de la Información. He worked as a cinema critic for the newspaper El País and for La Guía del Ocio, and he founded the journal Casablanca. At the movies, his first success was the 1980 film Opera Prima, following the style of the comedia madrileña. He achieved major success with Sé infiel y no mires con quién in 1985, which started a longer collaboration with the producer Andrés Vicente Gómez. He won the second Foreign Film Academy Award for Spain in 1993 with Belle Epoque. His directing credits also include the 2012 film Umelec a modelka, also known as El artista y la modelo.
