The rise of the Nazi regime in 1933 forced the Jewish‑born Bressart to leave Germany. He continued his acting career in Austria, where German‑language cinema remained comparatively open to Jewish artists. By the end of his career Bressart had accumulated sixty‑three credited appearances across film and television, a testament to his prolific output in both stage and screen. He died on 17 March 1949 at the age of 57, leaving behind a legacy as a versatile actor who navigated the turbulent political landscape of his time while maintaining a steady presence in European cinema.
