Biography

Eugene Hornbacker was a Victorian era boxer who had no professional background in filmmaking. His sole recorded appearance in the medium occurred in 1894, when he was hired by inventor Thomas Edison to participate in a boxing match for a Kinetoscope short film. In this production, titled The Hornbacker-Murphy Fight, Hornbacker competed against an opponent named Murphy. Beyond this specific project, Hornbacker maintained no further involvement in the film industry. His career is defined by this singular performance captured during the early development of motion picture technology.
