Biography

Ernie Adams was born Ernest Stephen Dumarais in San Francisco, California on June 18, 1885, and died on November 26, 1947 at the age of 62. He was an American vaudevillian performer, stage and screen character actor, and writer who appeared primarily in small uncredited parts. Adams was also billed as Ernest S. Adams and Ernie S. Adams. Throughout his career, he appeared in vaudeville, theater, and film, starting in musical comedy on Broadway. Along with his wife Berdonna Gilbert, he formed the vaudeville team Gilbert and Adams. On Broadway, Adams appeared in Toot-Toot! in 1918. He appeared in more than 400 films starting from the silent era between 1919 and 1948, and was particularly known for playing shady characters.

Ernie Adams, born Ernest Stephen Dumarais, was an American vaudevillian performer, stage and screen character actor and writer. Born in San Francisco, California to Leon D. Adams and Laurence G. Girard, he was also billed as Ernest S. Adams and Ernie S. Adams. Adams began his career in musical comedy on Broadway, appearing in the production Toot-Toot! in 1918. He also performed in vaudeville and theater, forming the vaudeville team Gilbert and Adams with his wife, Berdonna Gilbert.

Transitioning to film, Adams appeared primarily in small uncredited parts and more than 400 films starting from the silent era between 1919 and 1948. He was particularly known for playing shady characters. Among his film credits, he became known for appearing in All Quiet on the Western Front, It's a Wonderful Life, and It Happened One Night.

Adams passed away on November 26, 1947, at the age of sixty-two.
