She has worked for several Finnish theatres, including the Finnish National Theatre and Q-teatteri, and has appeared in both films and television. Knihtilä has received two Jussi Awards: one for a supporting role in the 2008 film Putoavia enkeleitä, directed by Heikki Kujanpää, and another for a leading role in the 2011 film Hyvä poika, directed by Zaida Bergroth. Her television work includes comic roles in Lapiveto, Vedetaat hatusta, and the first season of Putous. Knihtilä is cohabiting with actor Tommi Korpela, and together they have a son.
