Elaine Jill Paige OBE, born Elaine Bickerstaff on March 5, 1948, in Barnet, Hertfordshire, England, is an English singer and actress known for her work in musical theatre. Raised in Barnet, she attended the Aida Foster Theatre School and made her first professional stage appearance in 1964 at the age of sixteen. Her appearance in the 1968 production of Hair marked her West End debut. After appearing in various roles over the next decade, she was selected to play Eva Peron in the first production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita in 1978, which brought her to the attention of the broader public and earned her the Laurence Olivier Award for Performance of the Year in a musical.
