She began her acting career in the early 1980s, starring in films such as "Shaolin Temple", "Shaolin folk disciples", and "Shaolin kid". In 1986, she played the role of He Yufeng in "The 13th Missy". She also appeared in "The Dongling bandit" in 1987 and "A Dream of Red Mansions" in 1988. In 1989, she starred in a film where she played the role of Zhao Xiaowan. Ding Lan went to Singapore in 1991 and joined the local entertainment industry. She is known for her acting credits in 11 films and television shows.
