Biography
Diana Hyland was an American actress born Diane Gentner on January 25, 1936, in Ohio. After performing in summer stock as a teenager and graduating from Cleveland Heights High School, she moved to New York in 1955 to pursue an acting career. While working as a switchboard operator, she secured early television roles, including an appearance on Robert Montgomery Presents. She adopted the stage name Diana Hyland, utilizing her mother's maiden name. Her career included a tour of the play Look Back in Anger, which preceded her breakthrough performance on Broadway. Known for her confident air and appearance, Hyland established herself as a working actress during the mid-1950s.
