Her father worked as a journalist and photographer, and her grandfather served as the head of the justice department in Denizli. She has two elder siblings, named Sedef and Kemal. Following the separation of her parents when she was thirteen years old, she moved to Istanbul in 1972 with her mother and grandmother, where she later enrolled in the Istanbul Girls High School.
