He is best known for playing Christopher Hayden, who is Rory Gilmore's father and Lorelai Gilmore's on-and-off boyfriend, on the television show Gilmore Girls. He is a 1990 graduate of Victoria College at the University of Toronto, where he studied English literature and played varsity basketball before a career-ending knee injury. During college, he worked waiting tables at Michael's on Bay. Before moving to Hollywood, he starred in the independent feature film Two or Three Words, directed by Evan Georgiades. His film work also includes Cake, Testosterone, Under the Tuscan Sun, Misconceptions, and the television films Murder in the Hamptons and Before You Say I Do.
