Daniel Christopher Gilroy was born on June 24, 1959, in Santa Monica, California. He is an American screenwriter and film director. His screenwriting credits include Freejack in 1992, Two for the Money in 2005, The Fall in 2006, Real Steel in 2011, and The Bourne Legacy in 2012, which he wrote in collaboration with his brother, Tony Gilroy. He wrote and directed the film Nightcrawler in 2014, earning a nomination for Best Original Screenplay at the 87th Academy Awards and winning Best Screenplay at the 30th Independent Spirit Awards. His third feature film as a director is the 2019 contemporary art world horror thriller Velvet Buzzsaw.
