Daisuke Ryu was a Japanese actor born in Tokyo, Japan, on February 14, 1957. He passed away on April 11, 2021, at the age of sixty-four. Known for his work in film and television with eighty-three known credits, he won the Japanese best new actor Blue Ribbon Award for his performance as the warrior Oda Nobunaga in Akira Kurosawa's film Kagemusha. His other notable performances include playing Saburo Ichimonji in the Kurosawa epic Ran, the warrior monk Benkei in Sogo Ishii's Gojoe, and Count Kentaro Kurihama in the television serial The Ginger Tree, in which he starred opposite Samantha Bond.
