He began his acting career in 2001. He is the founding member of the sketch comedy troupe Frog Island and a recurring sketch player on "Conan." Barnes has appeared in various films and television shows, including "Digging with Earnest," "Escape from Planet Earth," and "Defending Santa." He has also guest-starred on numerous other series such as "Jessie," "Kickin' It," "Cold Case," "Suburgatory," and "Switched at Birth." Cooper Barnes is also known by the alias Nick Barnes.
