Clyde Gerry Geronimi was an Italian-American animation director born in Chiavenna, Lombardy, Italy on June 12, 1901. He immigrated to the United States as a young child. His earliest work in the animation field was for J.R. Bray Studios, where he worked with Walter Lantz before leaving in 1931 to join Walt Disney Productions, remaining there until 1959. Starting as an animator in the shorts department, he eventually became a director. His 1941 short Lend a Paw won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Geronimi was known for his work on feature-length animated films including Cinderella and Lady and the Tramp, and he also worked on television shows like Disneyland. In 1978, he won the Winsor McCay Award for his life's work in animation. He passed away on April 24, 1989.
