Boris Ingster was a Latvian-American screenwriter, film and television director, and producer who was notable for his role in launching the film noir genre. Born on October 29, 1903, in Riga, the Russian Empire, he was also known as Boriss Azarhs. During the 1930s, Ingster worked as a screenwriter on several films, establishing a foundation in the motion picture industry before transitioning to heavier creative responsibilities behind the camera.

In 1940, Ingster made his directorial debut with the film noir movie Stranger on the Third Floor. This directorial effort stands as a significant marker in his career, aligning with his noted historical contribution to the emergence of the film noir genre. Over the course of his career, he accumulated twenty known credits centered largely on writing.

Following his work in feature films, Ingster shifted much of his attention during the 1950s and 1960s to producing television series. His television work spanned a variety of genres, ranging from drama to Westerns and spy thrillers. He passed away on August 3, 1978, at the age of seventy-four.
