Benjamin Bob Clark was an American actor, director, screenwriter, and producer. He was born on August 5, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, and died on April 4, 2007, at the age of sixty-seven. Throughout his career, he had forty-six known credits primarily in the United States, and he also worked in Canada from 1973 to 1983. He is best known for directing and writing the script, alongside Jean Shepherd, for the 1983 Christmas film A Christmas Story. He was also responsible for directing Canadian films such as Black Christmas in 1974, Murder by Decree in 1979, Tribute in 1980, and Porky's in 1982.

His collaborator Roger Swaybill listened to the tapes and noted that he became convinced he was sharing in the birth of the work.
