Biography
Sir Antonio Pappano, born on 30 December 1959 in Epping, Essex, is an English-Italian conductor and pianist. He served as music director of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden from 2002 to 2024, becoming its longest-serving music director. From 1992 to 2002, he held the same position at La Monnaie, the Belgian Royal Opera House. Pappano has conducted both opera and ballet productions and was the youngest conductor to lead the Royal Opera House orchestra. Since September 2024, he has been music director of the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, he received a Gold Medal from the Royal Philharmonic Society.
