Alessandro Blasetti was an Italian film director, screenwriter, editor, and film critic. Born in Rome, Italy on July 3, 1900, he became one of the leading figures in Italian cinema during the Fascist era and was known for his role in reviving the struggling industry in the late 1920s. He is sometimes referred to as the father of Italian cinema or the founding father of modern Italian cinema. Blasetti influenced Italian neorealism with his film Quattro passi fra le nuvole. His known directing and writing credits include The Iron Crown, Un giorno nella vita, and First Communion. He was married to Maria Laura Quagliotti. Blasetti died in Rome on February 1, 1987.
