Corneau worked as a musician and later as an assistant to Costa-Gavras, during which he collaborated with Yves Montand. He directed films including Police Python 357 and La Menace, and also directed Gérard Depardieu in the screen adaptation of Tous les matins du monde in 1991. Corneau died on August 30, 2010, from cancer and was interred at Pere-Lachaise cemetery. He is known to have directed at least 38 films and television shows throughout his career.
