Although this is the most popular and widely used messaging app, the truth is that WhatsApp leaves a lot to be desired in terms of security and privacy.
Unlike other apps like Telegram, to start a conversation with a person all you need is their phone number. And not only that, but strangers can even add completely unknown people to groups.
Fortunately, there are little tricks to avoid being unexpectedly added to groups on WhatsApp. Because it’s not just that a lot of us don’t like bands, but being added to a group means revealing our phone number to people we don’t know at all.
Here we show you the most effective way to avoid being added to groups without our permission.
Until WhatsApp adds features like the ability to talk to contacts without having to reveal our phone number – like Telegram does through usernames, we have no alternative but to use certain options in the WhatsApp settings menu to prevent people we don’t know from adding us to groups of multiple people.
To do this, you will only have to go to the WhatsApp Settings section. Once inside, you go to Account, then select Privacy. In Privacy, click on Group and you will see several options.
Under the phrase “Who can add me to groups” there will be three options. You don’t have to be very smart to figure out what each of these means. If you select “Everyone” anyone can add you to groups, even people you don’t interact with. “My Contacts” only allows people on our calendar to add us to groups, which increases security and is where we are sure only our knowledge adds us to groups.
The last option “My contacts, except…” allows us to add certain contacts to a sort of blacklist.
This means that any of our contacts can add us to groups except those we choose. A kind of filter to avoid people you don’t like or with whom you just don’t trust enough.
