DOKKUM – On Thursday 18 and Friday 19 May, the seventh edition of the Bonifatius Cup for U13 and U15 teams was organized at the Tolhuispark in Dokkum. On both days, 32 teams from the region, elsewhere in the Netherlands and abroad were active.
The tournament was opened on Thursday at 11 a.m. by mayor Johannes Kramer of the municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân, after which the first group matches started at 11:30 a.m. On Friday, the football teams started with a breakfast together, after which the quarter-finals started at 9:00 am.
The finals of the U13 between SC Stadskanaal and Sportlust 46 from Woerden started around 3 p.m. in the Champions League. JSG Westring from Fulda and CJVV Amersfoort faced each other in the Europa League. SC Stadskanaal and CJVV Amersfoort eventually won the finals.
In the U15 SC Stadskanaal and SV Bonboys from Haaksbergen faced each other in the Champions League, and SC Stiens had to compete against Be Quick Dokkum in the Europa League. After that match SC Stadskanaal again won here and Be Quick Dokkum won in the final against SC Stiens and received the cup.
Lots of extras
The motto of the Boniface Cup is “Football Experience for Youth”. Team lunches were provided, team photos were taken and there was a penalty contest for all teams. There was also a performance by Dance Factory Dokkum at the finals on Friday. “Freestyle football player Finn Eekkerk and Stefan Brattinga of Nordicos Freestyle Football give a spectacular performance at the opening,” says Sjoerd Radersma of the organization.
