Since Tuesday, the chamois population on Salzburg’s Kapuzinerberg has been enriched by one chamois: Miriam, a young goat from the Karlsruhe Zoo, is intended to help keep the city chamois, which are unique in the world, fit for the future. However, the animal hesitated in its leap to final freedom – probably in view of the large number of journalists.
She is one year and ten months old, weighs 21 kilos and owes her name Miriam to the Salzburg Zoo veterinarian Miriam Wiesner. Since the end of June last year, she has cared for the chamois – together with three other chamois – in the zoo. Miriam was optimally prepared for life on the Kapuzinerberg, for example by being able to acquire her climbing skills in the natural enclosure.
